Dear Montezuma County Officials,
I am writing to express my strong support for the Valley Range Energy Park project, which will deliver transformative benefits to our community. Valley Range Energy Park plans to generate 125 megawatts of solar power combined with 62.5 megawatts of battery storage, enabling it to provide locally sourced, reliable electricity, even during peak demand or grid disruptions.
In addition, this project will create significant economic benefits. The construction phase will create an estimated 280 local jobs, injecting the community with vital income, while ongoing operations will sustain permanent positions and generate an estimated $15.5 million in tax revenue. These funds will support critical local services such as education, public safety, and infrastructure improvements.
The Valley Range Energy Park team has demonstrated a strong commitment to community engagement. It actively seeks input from stakeholders and residents to address concerns and incorporate local priorities into project planning. This collaborative approach helps ensure the project respects the county’s unique cultural and environmental values.
Utility-scale solar projects like Valley Range Energy Park are essential for building a sustainable, prosperous future for Montezuma County. I urge the County to support this project to maximize the benefits for our community.
Thank you for your leadership and commitment.
Dear Montezuma County Officials,
Thank you for taking time during this moratorium to review and improve our county’s policies around solar development. We see this pause as a chance to get things right—protecting what makes Montezuma County special while creating new opportunities for local families, landowners, and businesses.
We’re writing as people who care deeply about our schools, our farms, our open land, and our future. We believe that, when done responsibly, solar energy projects can bring real benefits to Montezuma County—especially when guided by common-sense rules.
- Solar projects generate new tax revenue to support schools, roads, and emergency services—without undue demand on our resources.
- They provide local farmers and ranchers with a stable, long-term source of income—helping them weather market swings, manage unpredictable crop prices, and keep land in the family for future generations.
- They create and support local jobs and bring investment into our towns and small businesses.
- And they produce local, clean, cost-effective energy right here in Montezuma County—strengthening our energy independence and improving air quality.
We appreciate the thoughtful work the County has done so far and the care being taken to get this right. As the moratorium period nears its end, we urge you to stay on track and complete the process within the six-month window as planned.
Extending the moratorium beyond six months would only create more uncertainty—for families making decisions about their land, for local businesses counting on new investment, and for a community that deserves clarity. By completing this process on time and putting common-sense rules in place, Montezuma County can move forward with confidence—unlocking new tax revenue, creating good local jobs, and providing long-term stability for farmers and ranchers.
Thank you for listening and for your service to the people of Montezuma County.
